What to eat after late night workout  Before Sleep -  I'm a night owl, so the early morning workout has never been a good idea for me. I typically have a large surge of energy in the evening and typically exercise after the sun goes down. Many of my clients also enjoy late-night workouts, but they always have one question for me: "Should I eat afterward and what should I eat?"

Is It Healthy to Eat After a Late Night Workout

You may have concerns about eating before bed, but it's crucial to replenish the energy you expended during your workout. As long as you consume a smaller portion of a protein-rich snack, and avoid causing acid reflux, that snack will assist you in gaining energy and rebuilding your muscles.

What Should I Do After Working Out At Night

At better, a warm shower or bath following your exercise will have a "rebound effect," says Stevenson. This can facilitate the body's cooling down more quickly, which in turn will facilitate a more comfortable sleep.

Why You Should Eat After a Workout

During exercise, your body consumes energy that was previously stored in your muscles. This means that you will lose that energy during the workout and you must replenish it. Specifically, food that contains carbohydrates and protein will assist in the restoration and repair of your muscles, this will provide you with the energy that you lost. You should attempt to eat within an hour of exercising.

My typical recommendation: Don't deprive yourself of food following a workout. You must consume something to replenish nutrients and aid in the recovery of your body from physical damage.

However, if you're aware that you'll be sleeping soon, it's not a good idea to consume a large meal before bed. Instead, here are six simple and fast options that are rich in nutrients, protein, and healthy fat—these will help to support your efforts at the gym, rather than detract from them.

Egg salad

Break a few hard-boiled eggs, and combine them with chopped vegetables (like shredded zucchini or minced kale) and a small amount of tahini or pesto.

Hummus with raw vegetables

Try traditional hummus or mix things up with a version that's made from black beans, lentils, or white beans. Choose the variety that you prefer, then scoop it up with sliced bell pepper, cucumber, grape tomatoes, or another seasonal vegetable that you enjoy.

Salmon and Vegetable Salad

Combine just a bit of canned wild salmon with a small amount of baby spinach and a tablespoon of olive oil-based dressing. Slice the romaine into thin strips, or eat the delicious mixture on its own.

Roasted Chickpeas

Sprinkle a handful of chickpeas with a bit of extra virgin olive oil and a pinch of sea salt (it's okay to use canned chickpeas; drained, rinsed, and patted dry). Place the chicken in a baking dish and cover with foil. Bake in the oven or toaster oven until golden brown.

Iced shrimp with avocado sauce

Thaw five or six frozen, pre-cooked shrimp and dip them into a quarter cup of guacamole. Make sure the avocado is not too hot, as spicy foods can cause heartburn, which can worsen when lying down and can interfere with your sleep.

Other than that, the diet is very similar to the standard American diet.
A perfect post-workout snack is a quarter cup of nuts or seeds, this is the same size as a golf ball (if they're in the shell, use a half cup). I enjoy almonds, pistachios, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds. Another alternative: a few tablespoons of nut or seed butter, mixed with celery.

Eating Before Bed

There are a few things to consider if you eat before bed. Eating late at night carries the risk of binge eating, particularly for individuals who have a high degree of stress.People who binge eat are typically motivated by stress, this can occur after a day of stressful events.

If you exercise during the night and have a propensity for eating large meals in the evening, it's important to consume a small, protein-rich snack that will replenish your energy and help you feel full.

Additionally, if you are prone to heartburn (acid reflux), you may want to avoid eating certain foods before going to sleep. This is because heartburn can worsen when you lie down because the acid can return to the esophagus via the stomach.

  • Fried food
  • Fast food
  • Pizza
  • Junk food
  • Cheese
  • Tomato sauce
  • Chocolate
  • Carbonated beverages

If you frequently experience symptoms of acid reflux, it might be beneficial to avoid these foods before bed.

Quick Overview

If you prefer to exercise in the evening or late at night, you may consume nuts, seeds, egg salad, hummus or vegetables as a post-workout snack.

You may have concerns about eating before bed, but it's crucial to replenish the energy you expended during your workout. As long as you consume a smaller portion of a protein-rich snack, and avoid causing acid reflux, that snack will assist you in gaining energy and rebuilding your muscles.

Bottom Line

Protein is necessary to rebuild muscle, while carbohydrates replenish glycogen, or energy stores, in muscles. It's best to eat within 15 to 30 minutes of your workout, but if that's not possible, aim to eat within 60 minutes. That's all the discussion about What to Eat After Late Night Workout Bodybuilding
